Medusa’s Makeup January 2019

Another month, another Medusa’s Makeup subscription box!   This is the one for the current month, January 2019, and it arrived at least a week ago, maybe more.   I did say I’m getting back into blogging, but there’s some catch up to do here.   Anyway!   This month featured four items and a bonus clear zip bag, and as usual, everything is vegan and cruelty free.

  • Totally Baked Eyeshadow – 2 g / $9 – (Full size product)   The color is “Fer Sure” and it’s a coppery red color.   The eyeshadow is incredibly pigmented, but it can be applied lighter or a super-pigmented gorgeous metallic color.   This is the kind of color that works really well to kick up the green in my eyes, so I LOVE this one to bits.
  • Lip Balm – .1 oz / $8.95 – (Full size product)   The flavor is “Cha Cha Cha Cherry Bomb” (HELLOOOO EARWORM!) and it smells exactly like a very popular brand of cherry lip balm, but this one is vegan and cruelty free.   Perfect timing for my dry, chapped winter lips.
  • Metallic AF Lip Gloss – .2 oz / $11 – (Full size product)   The color is “Bad Medicine” which is a metallic light pink gloss.   It goes on like a gloss but then dries almost like a matte lipstick, so it sticks around for a while.   The color and metallic shine may be a bit outside of my makeup comfort zone, but I think using this as a layer over a darker lipstick might be fun to try.
  • Mystical Eyedust – 3 g / $11.95 – (Full size product)   The color is “Psykhe” which is a really interesting chameleon of a color that looks purple and brown but with a gold shimmer.   It’s a really neat color and I can’t wait to use it.
  • Makeup Bag – ?? – Bonus item this   month!   I’m not a huge fan of plastic, but I do like having bags like this for travel, and I’m pretty sure this one would be okay to use as your carry-on baggie of liquids on a plane.

The total value of this box comes to $40.90 plus the value of the bonus makeup bag which is pretty great for a cost of only $16.95 per month!   It looks like the price went up $1 this past month, but the longer term subscriptions of 6 and 12 months bring the price down to $15.50 and $14.95 a month respectively.   I love that all the products are cruelty free and vegan, and it’s just a fun box to get every month.

Medusa’s Makeup December 2018

I wanted to get back into the habit of posting subscription boxes and whatnot even though I’ve dropped a bunch of subscriptions this year.   We’ve been away or moving most of the year, so it didn’t make sense to keep receiving stuff I wasn’t home to use (or, not wearing yoga pants and t-shirts 24/7 for months on end).   Anyway!   I jumped back on Medusa’s Makeup after a hiatus when I saw this box teased on social media.   Unicorns, I’m in!

  • Unicorn Farts Lip Sparkle – 2 g / $10 – (Product is full size)   The sparkle looks like it would show up like crazy, but not a whole lot of it transfers to your lips, so it ends up being just a subtle pink shimmer.   AND, it smells like cotton candy.   What’s not to love?
  • Magical Makeup Setting Spray – 2 oz / $11.95 – (Product is full size)   It has a light, fresh smell, and while it dries a little slower than some other popular setting sprays, it didn’t feel tacky or sticky at all.
  • Disco Queen Lip Gloss – .2 oz / $11.95 – (Product is full size)   Oh boy, I’m usually not that into lip gloss, but this one is surprisingly not sticky and goes on more like a lip balm but with decent glitter payoff and has this pretty peachy shimmer.   It’s enough to be like HELLO GLITTER, but not so much that it’s WHOA, GLITTER.   Plus, it smells like cupcakes.
  • Glam Rock Eyeshadow – 2 g / $9 – (Product is full size)   The color is “Heroes” and is a shimmery, metallic forest green.   It’s really easy to blend, so it can go on as lightly as you want, or crazy full blast deep, dark green.
  • Rainbow Brush – 1 / ?? – (Bonus item)   I mean, how could you have a unicorn box and not include something ridiculously rainbow fantastic.   Love it!
  • Unicorn Hair Ties – 2 / ?? – (Bonus item)   I go through hair ties constantly, so extras are always welcome!

The value of the items comes to $42.90 and the value of the bonus items is reported to be $12 according to the product card.   The beauty box only costs $15.95 per month including shipping, so we’re well over double the cost even without including the bonus item value!   I was surprised that I love the lip gloss this much (and I mean, I really really do), and I’ll definitely use everything in here, so chalk this up as a winner for me.   What’s even better is that every item in the box is vegan and completely cruelty free.

Medusa’s Makeup March 2017

March’s edition of the Medusa’s Makeup monthly box is here.  The shipment arrived in a pink padded mailer with minimal packaging as usual which I really appreciate.  Less waste!  Two lip products, an eyeshadow and an eye makeup primer made for four products this month.

  • Stick It Eye Primer – 2 oz / $8 – (Product is full size)  Made with natural oils and waxes, this eye primer is a bit stickier than the more velvety finish type primers I generally use.  However, I’d imagine that makes it a fantastic base for shimmery colors that tend not to stay put very well.
  • Eye Dust – 1.5 g / $7 – (Product is full size)  The color this month is, “Wasabe,” a shimmery green that’s perfect for the month that contains St. Patrick’s Day.  I really love getting a new eye color from them every month and this one is the prettiest spring green.
  • Lipstick – 3.5 g / $12 – (Product is full size)  The color received is, “Lydia,” though my container was labelled as “YOLO.”  It’s definitely the purple Lydia, and really not a color I have any use for.  It goes on as a pastel purple and looks a little bit like I’ve transformed into Violet Beauregarde.  It might work as a base under a bolder red color to bring the red into a cool/berry zone, but alone?  I’m just not the kind of person who wears purple lipstick.  It also contains parabens.
  • Lip Paint – 1.5 g / $12 – (Product is full size)  The color here is, “Get Lucky,” which is a bright, bubblegum pink.  It applies on me as a bright, flourescent pink, and I can’t see myself wearing this in public except maybe for Halloween or cosplaying Jem.  The formula isn’t my favorite – even after it’s dried and set, it’s still a little sticky, but it stays put (and is nearly impossible to remove).  This also contains parabens.

The total value this month comes to $39 which is good for a box that only costs $15.95 per month.  Unfortunately, the only products I’m going to keep and use are the eye primer and eye dust, so the value doesn’t quite make up for the cost this month for me.  I know Medusa’s Makeup is a little bit beyond my threshold in terms of bold, unusual colors, but this shipment was particularly bold, I think.  I decided to unsubscribe for the meantime since I’m honestly on makeup overload, and getting two lip colors that are pretty outlandish in this shipment put me over the edge.  I still love the company and their eye dusts are some of my favorites, so I may come back at a later date – I just need a break for now!

Medusa’s Makeup February 2017

February’s Medusa’s Makeup shipment is here!  This month arrived in a shiny red metallic bag and contained three items instead of the usual four, but that’s totally fine because a big kabuki brush?  YES PLEASE.

  • Eye Dust – 1.5 g / $7 – (Product is full size)  The color is, “New Wave,” and is a shimmery mermaid blue.  This is a real stunner of a color and I can’t wait to use it!
  • Kabuki Brush – 1 brush / $14 – (Product is full size)  The pink color isn’t really my thing, but it is a super soft synthetic brush that I’ll definitely use!  You can never have too many brushes.  Really.
  • Moonlight Highlighter – 10 g / $12 – (Product is full size)  The highlighter has a gold shimmer and it’s definitely warm toned.  I may have to suspend my, “I don’t like sparkly highlighters,” rule because this one is truly fantastic.  The shimmer is subtle enough that it just looks like a golden glow which works really well with my skin tone.

The total value comes to $33 which is pretty average for the subscription which costs $15.95 per month.  Again, I love the minimal packaging, no extra box or filler waste, just a bubble pack.  Every time I think I might be on Medusa’s Makeup overload, they put together a really great shipment and I think I’m going to have to hang on for a little while longer!

Medusa’s Makeup January 2017

The first box of the new year from Medusa’s Makeup .. has been here and I’ve been slacking so hard.  I keep saying I need to get my act together and catch up, so here I am again, trying to catch up!  This month was just okay.  I think because I had already gotten the Maracuja Oil before, it felt like I was getting duplicates of stuff I’d received from Medusa’s Makeup before, but really it’s just me subscribing to too many boxes!

  • Lip Gloss – .2 oz / $9 – (Product is full size)  The color received is, “Space Kitten,” a sheer, glittery pink.  The color payoff isn’t huge, but I think it’s meant to just add a little sparkle without being crazy pigmented.  The formula is nice – not sticky, natural, and paraben free!  This is probably going into my everyday bag for when I don’t feel like doing full lipstick but still want to have something on my lips that isn’t lip balm.
  • Eye Glitter – 3 g / $7 – (Product is full size)  The color received is, “Star Struck,” which is a pearlescent glitter with violet iridescence.  I LOVE their glitters and how fine they are, and this is great to go over black eyeliner for that glitter eyeliner look.
  • Eye Dust – 1.5 g / $7 – (Product is full size)  The color received is, “Purple Rain,” which is an iridescent purple, and I KNOW that right now you’re already singing Purple Rain in your head because you just have to.  SUCH a pretty color, and again, I haven’t really ever met an eyeshadow I didn’t like!
  • Maracuja Oil – .34 oz / $9 – (Product is full size)  Also known as Passion fruit seed oil,  I actually received this in the October 2016 Benevolent Beauty Box.  It’s not an issue since it’s not a dupe for Medusa’s Makeup, and of course I don’t mind getting more of this amazing oil.  It soaks into my dry skin SO lightning fast and leaves behind no greasy or oily residue.  The scent is lightly nutty, but rather pleasant, I think.

Overall the value comes to $32 which is about double the subscription price of $15.95.  That works for me!  I’ll use everything in the box, and the value is pretty much on par with previous shipments.  Looking forward to next (this?) month!

Medusa’s Makeup December 2016

This is me, still behind.  I feel like the entire month of January just slipped right past me between vacation and gatherings with friends, and I just haven’t quite had time for continuing to catch up with these posts, but hey, here I am now with Medusa’s Makeup from December 2016.

  • With Lash Mascara – 12 mL / $12 – (Full size product)  This was a new item as of this shipment, so it was neat yet again to try something new!  I love the applicator wand and the consistency is just right – not too thick or thin.  It did seem to flake a little too easily and I noticed that the ingredient list contains parabens, so while this isn’t going to replace any of my favorites, it’s fun to get a chance to try it out.
  • Lipstick – 3.5 g / $12 – (Full size product)  The color included was, “Sugar Daddy,” a warm, beigey neutral.  The color doesn’t work with my skin – in fact, it nearly identically matches my skin color, so when I wear it, it blends my lips right into my face.  Not an attractive look, IMHO.  I would’ve loved to see a more wintery rich plum sort of color in here.
  • Glitter – 2 g / $7 – (Full size product)  The color included was, “Gold Digger,” which is a sparkly gold, perfect for New Year’s!  I love using glitter like this as eyeliner, so it was already put to use for New Year’s Eve festivities.
  • Blush – 10 g / $12 – (Full size product)  The color included was, “Dangerous Liaison,” a bright pink, and a color that works well on me since I’m pretty naturally bright rosy pink in my cheeks anyway.  I don’t tend to wear a lot of blush, but will brush some on if I’m using foundation just to brighten me back up, so this will get some use.  Also doubles as a great eyeshadow color.

That’s all!  The total value this month comes to $43 which is great for a shipment that only costs $15.95 including shipping every month.  I’ve been thinking about cancelling this one in the near future since I’m on product overload and while I love Medusa’s Makeup products, I have plenty now!  This box is a great way to work vegan products into your routine, though the only caveat is that a good deal of their products do contain parabens.  January’s shipment just arrived too, so that will be getting posted soon!

Medusa’s Makeup November 2016

This is November’s shipment that honestly did arrive on time, I’m still doing a little bit of catch up on posts!  Every month is a great shipment of cruelty free products from this great company, and I’ve been super excited to see what comes next from this company in each shipment.

  • Setting Spray – 1 oz / $8 – (Product is full size)  The base is pretty heavily alcohol based, but it does help the product dry faster, and I didn’t feel like it dried out my skin on the quick test I did.  I haven’t had a chance to see if this really holds makeup for a whole day, so I’ll have to report  back once I’ve done thorough testing!
  • Lip Gloss – 6 mL / $9 – (Product is full size)  I received the color, “Loud Mouth,” which is an orangey color.  The formula is really surprisingly nice for a gloss – not sticky at all – and the color doesn’t look that wildly orange when on, it just kind of gently turns up the volume on your natural lip color with a subtle tint.  This makes for a great everyday gloss when I’m not going full-on makeup.
  • Eye Dust – 1.5 g / $7 – (Product is full size)  The color I received is, “Green Velvet,” which is a shimmery deep hunter green color.  I LOVE love love mineral shadows, and this one is super pigmented and has such a nice shimmer to it.
  • Lip and Cheek Stain – 3.5 g / $8 – (Product is full size)  The color received is, “Moody,” which is a deeper red color.  I like this best as a lip color since the oils really won’t work well over a foundation, but it’s the scent I like the best about this.  It smells amazing and works into a nice, natural looking color.

Overall, the value of the bag is $32 which is just about double the cost which is $15.95 per month including shipping.  What’s best about this is that subscribers generally get to try out new things first and I get four vegan and cruelty free beauty products from a company I know and love every month.

Medusa’s Makeup October 2016

dsc_8640

This is my second shipment for Medusa’s Makeup monthly subscription.  The shipment arrived in a metallic purple bubble mailer and everything inside is cruelty-free with most items being vegan as well.  The packaging is minimal which is great since it’s less waste/recycling to get rid of.  I’m all for keeping it simple when it comes to packaging/shipping.  This arrived on October 22nd, but I’m just getting around to posting about it today.  It looks like the shipment is processed on the anniversary date of your sign up, so if you signed up the 5th of the month, it’ll process and ship then, but if you were later in the month like me, you’re one of the last shipments going out.  I guess that makes it easier on them for shipping so there’s not one HUGE massive push to get everything out at once, but it is a little bit of a bummer since you see everyone else getting their shipments before you.  Not a big deal though since I’m a spoiler junkie and usually find out what I’m getting before it arrives anyway!

  • Deluxe False Eyelashes – 1 set / $8 – (Full Size Product)  I saw these I think in an email and was hoping they’d make it into this shipment, and they have!  It’s a fairly reasonable length for false lashes and I like that the length of the individual lashes is varied so they look a little bit more natural and blend into your own lashes.  I’m going to have to find a reason to give these a try!
  • Lipstick – 3.5 g / $12 – (Full Size Product)  The color is, “Red Square,” and is a bright fuchsia-strawberry red.  The product goes on velvety smooth and is a wonderful vegan formula.  The color comes out a bright fuchsia pink on me  and  might be a hair brighter than what I’d pick out for myself, but this gives me a chance to try something outside of my comfort zone.
  • Cosmetic Glitter – 3 g / $7 – (Full Size Product)  The color is, “Abracadabra,” and is a black glitter which makes it perfect for use as a glitter eyeliner!  It would probably go with the eyelashes really well for a little extra sparkle.
  • The Fix Glitter Adhesive – 2 g / $8 – (Full Size Product)  Well if you’re including glitter, you have to include an adhesive, right?  It’s a natural wax that makes the glitter stick to your skin and stay put.

The total value comes to $35 which well covers the cost of $15.95 per month.  I love that there’s a mix of makeup and practical stuff like the glitter adhesive, so it’s giving me more than just fun makeup to play with but also good base items to have on hand, plus they complement the other items included and work well as a shipment together.  Looking forward to November’s shipment!
